Theater makes a significant economic impact both to the quality of life, and to the local economy.  Last year, that meant 37 Million people attended live theater performances.  Nationwide, that resulted in over $2 billion dollars in the national economy.

According to Theater Communications Group (tcg.org) the arts are significant contributors to a community’s economic well-being; leveraging a significant amount of event-related spending by their audiences – and cast and crew.  Attendance at arts events generates related commerce for hotels, restaurants, hospitality businesses and more.

In West Bend, we rent the performance space, purchase lumber, electrical supplies, costuming materials, and we use local businesses for nearly all of our needs!  For some local businesses, this can mean thousands of dollars each year – right here in West Bend.

Our audiences make an impact, too.  Arts attendees spend an average of $22.87 per person, not including the price of admission. This annually results in huge spending when viewed at the national level.  Live theater is responsible for contributing these amounts to the national economy…

          • $80.8 billion of event-related spending by arts audiences
          • $4.9 billion in federal income taxes
          • $4.3 billion in state government revenue
          • $4.2 billion in local government revenue

It is also important to note that community theater supports the local economy in other ways.  Whenever a show is in production, actors, directors and crew members are reliant on restaurants in the area for refreshment before, during and after rehearsals.  Locally?  That can mean as much as $250 per night in revenue to a small pub or eatery from those needing snacks after a long rehearsal – often many nights in a row.  For those businesses that welcome us, we are loyal patrons during our productions.

Revenues from ticket sales are the primary source of income for Musical Masquers.  We do our best to control costs, yet creating quality performances requires creativity in both the theatrical presentation and the financial management of our operations.  We’ve been good stewards of our funds over the years.  It’s how we grew to be West Bend’s longest running community theater.

Your financial support will help us to offset expenses related to our shows.  We appreciate your gift – no matter the size!
